MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE-ALBANY — Base Commanding Officer Col. Matthew J. McKinney and Sgt. Maj. Frank B. Kammer of Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, alongside Marine Corps Logistics Command Chief of Staff Col. Gary Thompson joined other community leaders for the fourth annual handshake competition at the Commodore Conyers College and Career (4C) Academy recently.
Nicholas Redden was named the winner of the competition.
The competition was a culmination of the soft-skills curriculum, “Shake it Up,” which began with more than 200 students. After several rounds, 10 finalists competed for the top prize and recognition.
The ten finalists had the opportunity to shake hands and meet some of the southwest Georgia community’s leaders who served as judges for the competition.
“I was humbled to participate as a judge, knowing that these young men and women from 4C are the future leaders of Albany,” McKinney said. “Their confidence and handshakes gave me a lot of optimism for their future success.”
Chris Hatcher, the CEO of the 4C Academy, congratulated all of the finalists and added, “The handshake competition is one of my favorite things that we do here at the 4C Academy. We work hard every day on essential skills development and this competition is a great way for our students to apply what they are learning in a fun setting with community and business leaders.”
