LEESBURG — One of Georgia’s top returning quarterbacks is headed to Lee County.

Lee County head football coach Dean Fabrizio confirmed via text message Wednesday that former Colquitt County starting quarterback Cohen Lawson has transferred to Lee County High School after enrolling Wednesday.

Lawson, who will be a junior this fall, has been the Packers’ starting quarterback for the past two seasons after earning the job as a freshman. He arrives in Leesburg after putting together one of the state’s most productive sophomore campaigns in 2025.

Last season, Lawson completed 144 of 245 passes for 2,012 yards and 19 touchdowns while leading Colquitt County in 12 games. The Packers finished 9-3 last season, including a 43-36 win over the Trojans.

His addition gives the Trojans another proven playmaker as Lee County enters the 2026 season with lofty expectations.

The Trojans have been ranked as high as No. 3 in Class 6A in preseason polls and recently were listed No. 93 nationally in MaxPreps’ preseason Top 100 rankings.

Lawson’s arrival also adds another dimension to an offense that already featured one of the state’s deepest collections of talent.

Any impact on the Trojans’ depth chart has not yet been announced. Senior Jordan Bush, a Mercer commit who has experience at quarterback, could provide Lee County with additional flexibility offensively, but no position changes have been confirmed by the coaching staff.

Lawson joins the Trojans as preseason practice is already underway, giving Lee County another experienced weapon as it prepares for the 2026 season. The Trojans, who have been ranked as high as No. 3 in Class 6A in preseason polls and No. 93 nationally in MaxPreps’ preseason Top 100, are scheduled to host Perry in an OTA on Thursday as they continue preparations for what many expect to be another championship contender.
