TIFTON — Plough Gallery reopens its doors Saturday.
The Tifton Gallery, which has relocated to 216 Eighth Ave. W., has expanded its space and collection. The first exhibit, “appearances,” features the work of Sean Hurley and Kristy Hughes. The opening reception is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, during which visitors can view the new space and artworks on display. The artists will be present to discuss their work.
Admission to this event is free and open to the community.
Gallery owners and operators Mark Errol and Glenn Josey have been working diligently to prepare the gallery for the opening.
“In today’s world of uncertainty, we want this new space to be a place of sanctuary and inspiration for the community; a catalyst for creative expression and artistic growth,” Josey said.
The new gallery building has an expansive wraparound porch, while inside guests are enveloped by a wide central hall that connects to multiple rooms. Smaller passages lead to more rooms, and fireplaces complement the new and familiar work on display.
The gallery will continue to carry the ceramic, glass and fiber work that patrons are acquainted with, but the larger space calls for an expanded collection of fine art and craft.
Saturday’s reopening also marks the official start of the Plough Gallery Artist Residency Program. The first Artist in Residence is Fitzgerald native Shelby Evans.
“As a resident at Plough Gallery, I have been given the time, space and encouragement to create, ” Evans said. “And that’s exactly what I will do. I can’t wait to share with the community my passion for self-expression, critical examination and arts accessibility.”
