RALPH HOCUTT: Ivey Hines will continue worthy endeavors
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Ivey Hines will continue community work in retirement
Ralph Hocutt
I was present when Jolynn Baker hired Mr. Ivey Hines. He was legally blind at that time. Mr. Hines was involved in many different and difficult tasks in his 32 years of service. He was president of many different organizations, along with his church activities and as a mentor to youth. All he will continue in retirement.
At age 62, he is still a young man and has accomplished very much in such a short time.
I retired at age 55 on March 3, 1993, with over 38 years of service with the Department of Defense. I am in a group of military/federal retirees and others who build handicapped ramps for disabled persons on Tuesdays and Thursdays with breaks for extremely hot and cold weather.
While I was not present for his retirement, I was there in spirit. At least Ivey was not thrown in Covella Pond when he retired. I was then, as a joke, put in the brig for contaminating Covella Pond, had pictures taken in the brig and presented to me.
So, Mr. Hines, enjoy retirement, continue your worthy endeavors and Semper Fi.
