Albany unemployment drops to 4.6% in July
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson has reported that Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 4.1% in October, up one-tenth of a percent over the previous month.

ATLANTA — Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 4.6% in July, down two-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.9%.
“With over 5 million Georgians ready to work, our mission is clear: to turn this untapped potential into real, meaningful job opportunities,” Thompson said. “To build a stronger, more resilient Georgia for tomorrow, we must partner with businesses today to create jobs, leverage the power of our skilled work force, and keep unemployment low.”
The labor force decreased in Albany by 275 and ended the month with 65,312. That number went up by 1,188 when compared to July of 2023.
Albany finished the month with 62,323 employed residents. That number decreased by 112 over the month and went up by 675 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Albany ended July with 63,400 jobs. Jobs decreased by 100 over the month and were up by 1,500 over-the-year.
In July, initial unemployment claims in Albany increased by 37 from the previous month. Comparing July 2024 to July 2023, claims were down by 5, totaling 339.
