The city of Camilla, incorporated n 1858, takes its name from the a granddaughter of Henry Mitchell. Mitchell County, in turn, got its name from the Revolutionary War general Henry Mitchell.
Mitchell County is a hub of farming, and ranks high among the state’s counties in the production of peanuts, cotton and vegetables.
