The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday means a three-day weekend for many, and there are plenty of King-themed events going on in the city where he took part in the Albany Movement. Other events include a free concert by the U.S. Army’s jazz and swing traveling band and musical entertainment with a Jimmy Buffet flavor.

When: Monday, starts at 11 a.m.Where: Shiloh Baptist Church, 325 W. Whitney Ave.The annual march following the footsteps of members of the Albany Movement will kick off with a program at the church. The march from the church to downtown Albany begins at noon.

When: Monday, starts at 7:30 a.m.Where: Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 901 S. Westover Blvd.The H.E.A.R.T. King Day Breakfast will celebrate the life of the slain civil rights leader, who was involved in the Albany Movement in 1961 and 1962.

When: Saturday, starts at 7:30 p.m.Where: Albany Municipal Auditorium.The U.S. Army’s official touring band is a 19-member jazz ensemble billed as the military’s finest practitioners of jazz and swing music.Admission: No cost.

When: Saturday, starts at 6 p.m.Where: Pretoria Fields Brewing, 120 Pine Ave.Dave Dale and the Saltwater Cowboy take back to the coast with their renditions of Jimmy Buffett songs and ties in a little redneck with southern rock and country standards.
