In the movie, Melanie is supposed to get married at the Carmichael Plantation. The building used for the Carmichael Plantation is Oak Hill, located on the campus of Berry College. Oak Hill was the home of school founder Martha Berry. The Greek Revival manor housed Union soldiers during the Civil War. Monticello serves as the primary filming location for the film My Cousin Vinny. The town was used as the backdrop for the fictional town in the film. A number of local businesses were seen as shots showed cars driving down Forsyth Street.

Wild Adventures in Valdosta has one of the South’s largest ride collections. Some of the music iconic scenes from indie-hit “Zombieland” were at a zombie-infested theme park, played by the Valdosta attraction. A number of the rides were seen in the film.

In the movie, there is a scene where Dom has to go to Berlin to retrieve an EMP device from a military outpost. Rather, than filming in Berlin, the crew opted to use a much cheaper location in Georgia, the Guardian Centers in Perry. The Guardian Centers are a training facility whose center simulates disasters on any scale so officials can be prepared.

While the show does use many establishing shots shots of the real Lake Ozark in Missouri, most of the scenes on the water are actually filmed on Lake Allatoona. The Little River Marina at Lake Allatoona in Canton was also used for both interior and exterior shots in the first few episodes when Marty and his family are getting acquainted with their new home.
