AMERICUS — A suspected killer of three people in two separate incidents in Sumter County was undergoing medical care on Tuesday following a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI in Americus said that around 9: 15 a.m. on Tuesday Crisp County deputies spotted a 1997 Buick LaSabre driven by suspect Darrin Kenneth Ross, 45, and signaled him to stop. Ross continued in route, officials say, and deputies gave chase into a field at the end of 3rd Street in Americus where the suspect shot himself while still in the vehicle.

GBI officials say Ross was transported to the Macon Medical Center where his condition is undisclosed.

Officials say warrants were issued against Ross on Monday afternoon for the murder of Tonya Ross, which occurred at the Ross residence at 214B Lester St. in Americus, and also with the theft of Tonya Ross’s vehicle from the residence.

According to officials, around 9 a.m. on Monday the Americus Police Department received a call that two people had been discovered dead inside a residence at 1130 N. Jackson St. The deceased were Corey Willis, 36, and Quanesha Lashon Brown, 24, officials say.

At around 10:50 a.m. the same day, Americus police were called to 214 E. Lester St., officials say, where Tonya Ross’s body was discovered. In a statement on Tuesday the GBI said that Darrin Ross is believed to have committed all three murders.

GBI officials say the incidents continue to be investigated by the GBI and The Americus Police Department.
