Alarms can be expanded to A/C units
Buck Smith
Since copper thefts are a daily news item these days, maybe this will help some of you.
This is addressed to those business and home owners who have a alarm system. Most residential and some lower-priced commercial units do not come with a safety switch commonly know as a “low pressure switch.” This switch disables the unit in the event of a refrigerant (freon) leak in the system.
If you have one of these on your unit(s), you can have your alarm company and air-conditioning company integrate this device with your existing alarm system. If someone tries to steal your unit, they will make the refrigerant leak from the system and trigger the alarm.
Depending on your alarm system, you may be able to designate a zone to you air-conditioning unit(s) so that the monitoring company can notify the police and you of the alarm area in the event of a theft.
The addition of this device can also prevent a potential compressor failure. There is also a “high pressure switch” which is the sister safety device to the low pressure switch. You may want to have a combination switch (both switches in one unit) installed if you decide to implement this plan, to further protect your air-conditioning unit(s) if they are not currently on your existing unit(s).
