ALBANY — An employee of the Albany Parks and Recreation Department has been arrested and charged sexual assault, police officials say.

According to Phyllis Banks, public relations-media manager for the Albany Police Department, Xavier Bernard Jones, 26, was arrested Tuesday after the APD received an allegation of misconduct in June and began a criminal investigation for fact-finding purposes.

A copy of the arrest warrant issued July 13 alleges that on or about May 18, Jones engaged in sexual contact with an unnamed probationer or parolee as she was completing community service hours mandated by her probation. It was Jones’ job as an employee of Parks and Recreation to supervise the community service workers, the warrant states.

The investigation into Jones’ alleged misconduct is ongoing, Banks said.
