ALBANY — The city of Albany recently was recognized for completing the Georgia Economic Placemaking Collaborative program by the Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Cities Foundation.

The Albany program was initiated and led by the city’s downtown manager’s office.

“Effective placemaking strategies can be a catalyst to growing and transforming communities,” Larry Hanson, executive director for the GMA, said. “We commend the city of Albany on their completion of the program and their commitment to positively developing their community.”

Albany was one of 10 cities recognized for completing the program.

CPEC is a two-year program that helps cities build a team and develop a specific placemaking strategy based on a community’s unique assets.

Placemaking is the process of reimagining a community to create spaces in which people want to live, work, play and learn.

The late-January convention was held in Atlanta and was attended by about 1,000.
