ALBANY — An Albany State University student was killed in a Monday morning car accident that left three other people injured.

Joshua Dakota Raines, 19, was pronounced dead at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said.

The accident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on the 2300 block of Gillionville Road, the coroner said.

“Four people were in the car that hit a pole,” Fowler said. “(The deceased) was a passenger in the back seat.”

The three other people in the car did not suffer severe injuries, he said.

The death is the second recent fatal single-car crash involving vehicles that reportedly were traveling at high rates of speed. Local law enforcement agencies have received a number of complaints about vehicles traveling — mostly late at night/early morning — at excessive rates of speed on some of the city’s and community’s busiest thoroughfares.
