ALBANY — Civil Right, a collection of 13 works by painter Karl Zerbe will be on display at the Albany Civil Rights Institute through January 31, 2015.

The Institute is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Institute will be closed Dec. 24 through 29. It will open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Dec. 30 and close again on the 31st and January 1.

Zerbe experimented with a variety of media and social commentary through art and closeness to nature. As an artist he considered himself to be a documenter of the world around him which provided him the impetus to capture the Civil Rights movement.

The Zerbe collection is free to the public.

No Construction Lane Closures for Christmas and New Year’s

TIFTON — The Georgia Department of Transportation is once again restricting construction lane closures on interstates and major state routes near tourist locations and large shopping centers, malls or districts during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Construction-related lane closures are restricted between 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, and 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 and again from 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, to 5 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, to allow for increased holiday traffic.

The restriction does not include emergency lane closures that may be necessary. Crews may still be working near highways and some long-term lane closures may remain in place for safety reasons. Please obey posted speed limits and allow extra travel time for congested highways.

If you’re planning on heading north to the metro Atlanta area, remember that real-time traffic information is available by calling 511, using the “Georgia 511” mobile app or logging on to www.511ga.org. An automated voice recognition system guides the phone service, but callers can also reach live operators to report accidents or congestion, request HERO (Highway Emergency Response Operators) assistance or obtain additional information. HERO assistance is available only in the metro Atlanta area.
