Americus child dies of gunshot wound

AMERICUS — A 4-year-old child died late Tuesday from a gunshot wound received at her home in Americus early the same morning, officials say.

Danny Jackson, special agent in charge at the Americus office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, said Assata Snipes received a wound from gunfire outside her home at 802-B Georgia Ave. in Americus and died around 7 p.m. at a Macon hospital.

The joint investigation of the incident by the GBI and the Americus Police Department is ongoing, Jackson said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Americus GBI at (229) 931-2439 or the Americus Police Department at (229) 924-3677.
