Bishop, Ohio Congresswoman visit Sumter County farms

LESLIE – Congressman Sanford Bishop, D-Ga., accompanied Congresswoman Shontel Brown, D-Ohio, and other representatives recently visited peanut and cotton farms in Sumter County, discussing issues that area farmers face.

Representatives from the U.S. Peanut Federation, Georgia Farm Bureau, Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, Southern Cotton Growers, Southeastern Cotton Ginners Association, Southwest Georgia Farm Credit, American Peanut Shellers Association, Georgia Peanut Commission, Georgia Cotton Commission, Alabama Peanut Shellers Association, Alabama Farmers Federation, and local farmers were present.

Bishop is a ranking member of the U.S. House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee. He spoke on the importance of supporting Georgia Farmers.

“We need people like Congresswoman Brown in congress to understand how the process works so we can keep this economic engine churning for farmers in Georgia,” Bishop said.

Bishop is currently running for his 17th term representing the 2nd Congressional District of Georgia. He has been working to pass the Farm Bill, an important piece of legislation that helps farmers manage risks and maintain sustainable farming practices.
