Albany’s April unemployment rate drops to 3.4%
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson has reported that Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 4.1% in October, up one-tenth of a percent over the previous month.

ATLANTA — Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said that Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 3.4% in April, down four-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.3%.
“Empowering the right people, in the right place, at the right time to make the right decisions is why Georgia continues to lead the nation in low unemployment and job opportunities for hard-working Georgians,” Thompson said. “From the state to the local level, Georgia is focused on creating an environment where businesses can thrive, and everyday workers can find good jobs and build better lives.”
The labor force increased in Albany by 290 and ended the month with 64,747. That number went up by 1,010 when compared to April of 2023.
Albany finished the month with 62,514 employed residents. That number increased by 493 over the month and went up by 877 when compared to the same time a year ago.

In April, initial unemployment claims increased by 73 (34%) in Albany. Compared to April 2024, claims in April 2023 were up by 2 (1%).
