Deep South Kawasaki, ABAC partner on equipment

TIFTON — Students studying at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Beef Unit and J.G. Woodroof Farm were recently presented with a 2023 Kawasaki Mule to use for an entire year. The donation was made by Dealer Principal Patricia Holtzclaw and Operations Manager Tony Layfield of Thomasville’s Deep South Kawasaki and Tifton’s Honda of South Georgia.
“Kawasaki Corporate actually supports and promotes demo utility vehicles in local communities to allow partnering with local organizations,” Layfield said. “And Deep South Kawasaki is supported by Kawasaki Motor Co. because they are a Team Green dealership serving all of south Georgia.”
Layfield said the new model is a little different from the old one ABAC has been using.
“The one that they had previously is more what we call a worker mule,” he said. “This one’s going to have a lot better ride thanks to the independent suspension and more towing capacity.”
Beef Unit Manager Doug Hicks said the new piece of equipment is valuable for students.
“It’s a tool we can use for checking the daily update and maintenance of the cattle,” he said. “With it being an open vehicle, you have a little closer contact with the animals and the forage.”
ABAC Chief Advancement Officer Deidre Martin said the donation was made through the ABAC Foundation.
“The equipment provided by our partners in the community allows our students to have hands-on learning experiences to prepare them to enter the work force upon graduation,” Martin said.
