ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. — The Darton College golf team is looking good in its third tournament of the year at Willow Pointe Golf & Country Club, as the Cavaliers are tied for first in the District 4 preview tournament.

After shooting 290 in the first round and tying for first, Darton players shot well in an incomplete second round that will be finished today.

Chanat Sakulpolphaisan shot a 69 to lead the Cavaliers in the first round, and is currently 2-under in the second round. He is followed by Taylor Welborn (74 in first round, currently 1-under in the second), Shad Tuten (72, 2-over), Spencer Farrell (75, even) and Matt Johns (80). Johns was the only one to finish the second round for Darton, shooting a 78.

The second round resumes at 7 a.m. today, and head coach Dale Dover said if everybody pars out, the team should be tied with Meridian Community College for the lead.

“I’m pretty pleased,”said Dover, whose team finished first and fourth in its previous two tournaments. “We did a good job. We started off slow this morning and it didn’t look good, but our guys pulled it back together.”

Meridian was in fourth after shooting 292 in the first round, but had player shoot 67 in second round. Central Alabama was in third with 291.

The final round begins today at 10 a.m.
