ALBANY — An officer of the Dougherty Police Department is on unpaid leave after being charged with terroristic threats toward his child and former girlfriend.
Officials say Jercory McCray, of 419 Westover Blvd. Apt. 47, was arrested Tuesday evening by officers of the Albany Police Department after complaints by Nikendra Bynum, mother of McCray’s 2-year-old child, that on at least two occasions McCray had sent threatening text messages to her phone.
Albany Patrolman Willie Hall stated in a report on Tuesday that he made contact with Bynum on the 2000 block of Oglethorpe Boulevard, where she told him that while her unidentified male friend was with her at her apartment, McCray had sent an insulting text message to her phone and threatened to take sole custody of their child.
According to Hall, Bynum also said that McCray had sent a text on March 13 with the message “yall gone make me pull a Tip on yall,” referring to a recent criminal case where a suspect known as “Tip” was charged with homicide.
Bynum said that she had no personal relationship with McCray other than what was necessary for the parenting of their child, Hall said. Bynum said she was concerned about what McCray was capable of doing since, as a police officer, McCrary understood more about “how far he could go with things,” Hall reported.
Officials say McCray was arrested on charges of terroristic threats and domestic violence, but was later released on a $1,000 bond.
