ALBANY — Dougherty Comprehensive High School at 1800 Pierce Ave. was searched twice on Thursday in response to threats of bombs inside the school, police officials say.

According to police, hallways and certain other areas of the school were swept by “Mona,” a bomb detection dog, and her handler, and afterward declared safe.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, said Mona displayed no positive alerts or changes in behavior which would indicate the presence of explosive materials she was trained to detect.

The first search of the school was conducted around 11 a.m., Banks said, with a later search at 2 p.m., both with negative results.

Anyone with information concerning the bomb threats or their origin is asked to call the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100.
