ALBANY — Economic development officials are trying to drum up participation in an initiative designed to promote local industry and educate the community to the contributions they make, officials say.

Industry Celebration week is slated for the first week in May, but organizers say that they have received little input from companies in terms of comments or recommendations for one of four awards the group plans to give out, Albany Dougherty Economic Development Commission Spokesperson Barbara Rivera Holmes said Tuesday.

The EDC and the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce both have award applications on their Web sites, www.choosealbany.com and www.albanyga.com, and are encouraging people to download them and either fax or mail them back, Holmes said.

“This is an opportunity for us to educate the community to the efforts of local industry and their impact on the world and to gain exposure for local industrial leaders,” she said. “But, we really need some participation to make it a success.”

The group plans on recognizing local companies in terms of excellence in innovation, global commerce, community involvement and economic impact, Holmes said.

The deadline to complete the applications and send them in is April 1.
