ATLANTA — How can teaching artists connect more deeply with schools? What distinguishes STEAM schools and how do teaching artists fit in?
Those questions and others will be answered during a hands-on professional development workshop hosted by the Georgia Council for the Arts that explores arts integration and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) as they apply to teaching artists.
Led by Georgia Department of Education STEAM Program Specialist Sally Baker, the workshop will teach participants to consider how the arts connect to state standards, how to plan meaningful workshops and residencies, how to assess a program’s success, and how to help schools understand what teaching artists offer.
Following the workshop, participating teaching artists will be invited to take an assessment, and upon successful completion, will be granted a GCA STEAM-Ready Designation. The workshop will be hosted at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta May 1 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
This workshop is free. However, participants should plan to pay for parking. Also, plan to bring or purchase lunch and snacks.
The High Museum of Art is located at 1280 Peachtree Street NE in Atlanta. Directions by car, train, and bus, as well as parking options, are available at https://high.org/directions-and-parking/directions-tab.
Persons with questions or requests for accommodations may contact Grants and Arts Education Program Manager Emily Yewell Volin at GCA, at [email protected] or call (404) 962-4015.
