AMERICUS — The Georgia Southwestern State University Foundation recently received a $5,000 grant from Flint Energies Foundation, made possible by its Operation Round Up campaign.
Funds from the grant will be used to purchase five iPads to increase mobility with the GSW Office of First-Year Experience, which focuses on student retention and overall success. The iPads are designed to allow staff to immediately serve students one-on-one during registration, orientation and advisement at any meeting place.
“We are grateful to Flint Energies for investing in our students’ success,” FYE Director David Jenkins said. “Their financial support will allow for much-needed technology within FYE to better serve our students.”
Kim Comer with GSW Annual Giving collaborated with Reda Rowell, former executive director of the GSW Foundation, in compiling the information for the grant and presenting at the Flint Energies Foundation board meeting in March.
“The addition of this technology will allow FYE to engage students in an increasingly mobile campus environment, thus improving the student experience at GSW,” Corner said.
Flint Energies adopted Operation Round Up to enable members to raise money for charities and service organizations. Officials said participating members allow Flint Energies to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar.
