GUY CRAFT: John White deserves praise from Albany
Guy Craft
John White, an icon of civil rights, human rights and civilian soldier for the improvement of the city he spent more than half his life in, is leaving Albany. He will missed for too many reasons to cite. John White did so much for so little recompense.
John White has been privileged to be strong and daring beyond measure. He always wanted to enter the labyrinth that brought dignity to all American citizens, especially Georgians. He recognized that without it, it would make this Republic a lie.
John White was born in Alabama and educated in Florida, but he chose, Albany, Ga., to make a difference and he made it with grace and poise. He brought his gifts to Albany. He was a master communicator, an educator and a member of the General Assembly for more than 20 years.
John White spent 47 years of his life in this city and not a year passed that he did not try to help somebody.
John White answered the bell in the Good Life City to make it better. This city, this state, this country will always be indebted to John White. So, let’s all come together and say thank you, John White, for passing through Georgia as you take your leave to return to Alabama, the state of your birth.
No, John, thank you is not enough. We must highly appreciate you for all you did in this place.
