KURT ASCHERMANN: Spicy salsa the perfect snack for cooler weather
Kurt Aschermann Jr.
The fall has arrived and winter is right around the corner, so it’s just the right time to warm up with a bowl of spicy salsa.
Whether you’re planning an upcoming holiday party or a get-together with family and friends, Shivanti’s Salsa, a recipe submitted by Shivanti Willy, hits the spot. Salsas are usually judged based on how spicy and flavorful they are, and Shivanti’s is one of the spiciest. It’s also one of her her specialties.
Unlike a lot of salsas and dips, this one doesn’t sacrifice flavor for spiciness, combining both to provide a delicious side.
The key to this salsa are the tomatoes and jalapenos, as this recipe calls for an abundance of both.
Besides using one whole tomato and a handful of chopped jalapenos, you’ll also want to use one can of stewed, whole tomatoes and one can of stewed, chopped tomatoes that includes jalapenos.
The jalapenos aren’t the only ingredient that goes into making this such a delectable, spicy salsa. Chopped onions, garlic, cayenne pepper (instead of regular ground black pepper) and ground cumin seeds really give it a kick.
There are plenty of different snack items that go well with this salsa, including chips and crackers. Sliced pita bread also allows you to soak up the flavors, and the salsa is even great as a garnish on sandwiches.
No matter how cool it gets this fall and winter, Shivanti’s Salsa, with its robust flavors, will warm things up and leave you full and satisfied.
