ALBANY — Members of the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County got an update on the touted Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy at the civic club’s recent meeting.

Christ Hatcher, CEO of the career academy, known also as “4C Academy,” spoke with the club at the meeting about the progress made in the first year of the unique educational facility.

Hatcher said the 4C Academy partners not only with schools in the Dougherty County School System but with schools in surrounding counties as well. The career academy offers students the opportunity to, eventually, complete two years of college — at no charge — while also completing high school requirements.

Hatcher gave club members specifics about the 4C Academy’s curriculum and the academy’s purpose, which also includes training in soft skills such as interviewing, appearance, punctuality, etc.; career tracks, and continued growth.

The career academy CEO said local businesses are excited about the potential for hiring career-ready students from here in the community. The career academy is supported by local businesses, as well as Albany State University and Albany Technical College.

The career tracks from which students may choose were selected as a direct response to input from local businesses.
