ALBANY — The Albany Dougherty Drug Unit continued its aggressive policy of cracking down on drug dealers within the Albany community by making another major bust Tuesday.
The arrest of Carlos Water, 33, is the third successful bust carried out by ADDU within the last month. The total value of the drugs seized was $12,366, according to information from ADDU.
“The interdiction team made a traffic stop on a vehicle in which they received information that the driver, Carlos Waters, 33, would be in possession of marijuana and cocaine,” ADDU agent George Camp wrote in a news release about the incident. “The vehicle was stopped in the 1700 block of Schley Avenue and once officers approached the vehicle they could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.”
According to Camp, the odor provided officers with probable cause to search the vehicle.
“A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy were recovered,” Camp said in the release. “The officers found out the Carlos Waters was on probation and the Department of Community Supervision was called. They arrived on scene and spoke with Carlos Waters who advised them that he had more marijuana in his house at 1107 West Waddell Avenue.”
Officers subsequently searched the residence and recovered more marijuana and cocaine.
“On the traffic stop Carlos Waters was charged with distracted driver, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of ecstasy with intent to distribute,” Camp said. “Waters was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute for what was found in his house.”
According to camp, 310.2 grams of marijuana valued at $9,306, 23.1 grams of cocaine valued at $2,310 and 37.5 pills of ecstasy valued at $750 were seized.
