Four drug busts recorded in two weeks by Drug Unit

ALBANY — The Albany Dougherty Drug Unit has been cracking down on illegal drugs over the past two weeks with the agency making four major busts, according to unit commander Maj. Prurince Dice.

“Today, a search warrant was served at the location of 1107 Swift Ave. after months of ongoing investigations,” Dice said. “Three suspects were arrested. A large quantity of Ecstasy and manufacturing materials were seized from the location. This investigation is still ongoing at this time.

“On Monday, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a search warrant was served at the location of 1910 Stuart Ave. after an ongoing investigation for the past few months, and Anthony Jordan, 27, was arrested and charged with trafficking heroin, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and criminal trespass.”

Also arrested Monday, according to reports, were Mickel Wilkes, 36, charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking heroin and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce),and Tammy Welch, 48, charged with possession of heroin.

“On Friday, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a search warrant was served at the location of 1307 Ninth Ave. after an ongoing investigation,” Dice said. “Shorofsky Horton, 35, and Vanessa King, 35, were arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of Ecstasy with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of drug-related objects.”

Horton also was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Dice said.

“During the search of this location, agents discovered 480 grams of marijuana (valued at $14,400), 86 grams of cocaine (valued at $8,600), 12.7 grams of Ecstasy labeled ‘Warner Brothers’ (valued at $740), a firearm (.380 caliber), and $1,350 worth of U.S. Currency,” Dice said. “The subjects were arrested and transported to the Dougherty County Jail.”

ADDU kicked off its two-weeklong crime-busting spree on May 31, according to Dice, with a massive Ecstasy bust in south Albany.

“At 4:30 p.m. on May 31, a search warrant was served at the location of 1408 E. Mercer Ave. after a one-month investigation,” Dice said. “Agents received information regarding the manufacturing and sales of illegal drugs, which sparked the investigation. During the search, a large amount of Ecstasy/ MDMA — 129.6 grams — was located under an awning in the rear of the yard. Materials utilized to manufacture Ecstasy was recovered as well.”

According to reports, suspect Leshia Clark was arrested and charged with manufacturing Ecstasy, trafficking Ecstasy, and possession of drug-related objects.

“The street value of the drugs seized in just that one bust was approximately $16,000,” Dice said. “We don’t want drugs in our town, and if you are dealing drugs, we are coming for you.”
