ALBANY — The Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit announced a series of busts Friday afternoon that have taken several drug dealers off the streets of Albany.

“We had a fairly busy week and we are not done,” said Major Prurince Dice of the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit. “Our drug agents have been overwhelmed with information on cases that they have been investigating for some time and some case that we received information on.”

According to Dice, Brian Jeffcoat has been under investigation by the drug unit for some time.

“We arrested a white male, Brian Jeffcoat,” said Dice. “He has been on the radar for quite some time. We have had him under investigation for several months for complaints of selling marijuana, methamphetamine and heroin. He hangs around the Eighth Avenue and Ninth Avenue area on the north side of town. We arrested him Wednesday.”

According to Dice, agents responded to the 900 block of Eighth Avenue, where Jeffcoat was observed inside of a vehicle.

“At first, when agents made contact with him, he didn’t want to get out of the car,” said Dice. “Agents were finally able to detain him and, once detained, they searched the vehicle and found marijuana, crystal methamphetamine and heroin.”

Reports indicate Jeffcoat was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, three counts of intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a public park, and forgery.

According to Dice, the arrest of Montravious Gibson was a separate incident.

“Gibson is not a new person in this game,” said Dice.

Reports indicate that Gibson was pulled over for a traffic stop and agents smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

“After detaining Gibson, agents searched the vehicle and found over 250 grams of marijuana,” said Dice. “Also, when agents made contact with Gibson, there were two kids in the back seat, ages 6 and 3, right there in the back seat where over a half pound of marijuana was found.”

Reports indicate Gibson was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, reckless endangerment of two minors, several safety restraint violations and probation violation.

According to Dice, another arrest was made Thursday when drug agents responded to a shooting call at 404 S. Slappey Blvd.

“Agents made contact with a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle that may have been involved in the shooting,” said Dice. “While they were (observing the vehicle) they smelled an odor of marijuana coming from a vehicle next to this car that was allegedly involved in the shooting. Agents investigated the odor and discovered almost an ounce of marijuana. The driver, Marcus Crouch, was arrested.”

Friday morning, according to Dice, agents served a search warrant at 3612 War Eagle Drive and arrested Emmitt Hunt III.

“Agents discovered marijuana and various drug-related items during the search,” said Dice. “Hunt is now in jail, charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

“We want drug dealers to know, if you are selling drugs in Albany, we will find you and we will arrest you.”
