ALBANY — A marijuana brownie bandit was captured Monday by the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit.

At approximately 4:27 p.m. on Monday, ADDU agents served a search warrant at 932 South Street in Albany. During the raid, agents arrested Lytatray Buchanan, 21, of Dawson, and recovered multiple baked brownies that contained marijuana, several small bags of marijuana packaged for distribution totaling just over an ounce and various items of drug paraphernalia.

“I have never seen this before,” said ADDU Commander Maj. Prurince Dice. “I have heard about weed brownies on television, but I never thought it was going to happen in Albany.”

Officials said they received a tip about drugs being sold out of a house on South Street.

“On Monday, agents with our drug unit and interdiction team went out to a residence in East Albany,” said Dice. “They smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the residence, which was 932 South Street. They went back and typed a search warrant for the residence based on that odor and went to serve the search warrant and discovered several items, including marijuana paraphernalia, marijuana residue in extremely large bags, which lead us to believe large quantities of drugs were being transported or sold out of this location. They recovered several scales and other additional items that facilitate drug possession and distribution organization.

“The interesting thing about this case is that they discovered several brownies that contained marijuana on the inside of those brownies that were cooked, baked and ready to serve to people.”

Dice said officers tested the brownies onsite.

“Those brownies were tested with a field test,” the ADDU commander said. “(Test results) indicated a positive sample of marijuana. This is a very unique case, and I would encourage people to make sure that they know who they are buying brownies from. Don’t eat things from anybody on the street. We don’t know if he was giving this to kids. We don’t know how much he was selling these brownies for. We don’t know if it has the same THC (tetrahdycannabinol) effect as you would have if you smoked it. This is something new to me.”

According to officials, Buchanan has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug-related objects. He was taken to the Dougherty County Jail, but is out on bond.
