ALBANY — After 11 years of conducting business at the city’s Law Enforcement Center, Albany City Attorney Nathan Davis and his staff have moved into new digs at the Albany-Dougherty Government Center on Pine Avenue.

The city attorney is now located in room 560 on the fifth floor of the Government Center.

“The new offices are more convenient; I can just go downstairs to the commission chamber or workroom for meetings,” Davis said. “But we moved primarily because the Law Enforcement Center HVAC system did not have a water chiller, just a compressor, and it would go out a lot in the summer months. We were on the third floor, and that heat would rise. You can’t open the windows in that building, and it would sometimes take days to fix the compressor.

“It could become unbearable in July and August.”

Davis added that the new offices are smaller, but he said he figures that will be a price worth paying to stay cool during the summer.

“We don’t have the square footage we had at the LEC, but it’s more convenient and we’ll appreciate it in July and August,” the attorney said.

The new offices are at the 222 Pine Ave. government building, which until recently were the offices of City Manager Sharon Subadan and her staff. Subadan has moved her office into the newly remodeled 401 Pine Ave. Utilities Building. The city attorney’s phone number is (229) 431-2805.

City officials also announced Albany will hold its first downtown fireworks celebration on New Year’s Eve. The event will be held at Riverfront Park with a countdown beginning at 11.p.m. Fireworks will start at midnight.

DJ Dollar Bill will provide pre-show entertainment, and no personal fireworks or firearms are allowed at the celebration. In addition, city officials say an 11 p.m. curfew will be in effect for children under the age of 18.
