ALBANY — Albany City Commissioner Jon Howard will host a town hall meeting on Saturday during which members of the public can engage representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration about storm damage issues.
Howard has been actively leading storm recovery efforts in the wake of Jan.2 and Jan. 22 weather events that tore through the community, leading east Albany cleanup efforts on Jan. 14 in his own Ward I, which drew hundreds of volunteers, and organizing a south Albany cleanup effort in Dougherty County Commissioner John Hayes’ district on Feb. 11.
Howard has focused his resources and influence on helping residents and senior citizens who have limited resources recover after the devastating storms of January.
Saturday’s meeting will be held at the Neighborhood Law Enforcement Center located at 201 West Oglethorpe Blvd. and is set to begin at 10 a.m. Howard said in a news release he expects the meeting to last approximately 1 1/2 hours.
According to Howard, the meeting will be beneficial to residents of all wards/districts, especially anyone affected by either of the recent storms that devastated large portions of Albany and Dougherty County.
“This is an important meeting that you do not want to miss if you are a storm victim or survivor,” Howard said. “I encourage everyone to attend so that you may get the information first-hand and have your questions answered.”
FEMA Intergovernmental Affairs Specialist Jim Woodard and the SBA’s Karen Knapik will be the featured speakers at the meeting.
“Both speakers will provide a wealth of information and will explain in detail how FEMA and the SBA disaster loans can assist storm victims,” said Howard.
