ALBANY — Alexander Smith, 24, died from an apparent self-inflicted gun wound on the 200 block of the Liberty Expressway early Sunday morning, according to Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler.
“The car had been there on the side of the road since about 6 a.m.,” Fowler said. “I believe a suspicious vehicle was reported and then police arrived on the scene and called EMS, which got there about 7:30 a.m.”
According to Albany Police Department spokeswoman Phyllis Banks, units responded to the 200 block of the Liberty Bypass in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Once on the scene, the victim was found expired from an apparent self-inflicted wound.
Albany State University police also responded due to the fact that the victim was an Albany State student, said Banks.
Fowler confirmed that Smith died from a single gunshot wound.
“The circumstances are still unclear as to why he did it,” said Fowler. “He did not leave a note.”
This case is under investigation.
