ALBANY — Albany Fire Chief Ron Rowe is retiring effective New Year’s Day, city officials said Friday.
“I am excited about my retirement and want to thank the city of Albany for all the opportunities I have experienced here, especially with the Albany Fire Department,” Rowe said in his retirement letter. “I have enjoyed my employment with the city of Albany and will miss my co-workers.”
City Manager Sharon Subadan said Rowe, who has served the last two years as fire chief, will be missed.
“His wealth of knowledge, experience and contributions toward the Public Safety profession and the Pension Board will be sorely missed,” Subadan said. “However, I am excited for him in his new adventure.”
Rowe was employed by the fire department for more than 30 years, starting as a firefighter. In 2006, he was elected to the city’s Pension Board, where he has served as vice chairman. City officials said that one of his most notable accomplishments was leading the Albany-Dougherty County community through recovery from the January storms, serving as the primary liaison with FEMA and GEMA.
