Albany police investigate burglaries, entering autos

ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is investigating a number of incidents of criminal activity, including multiple entering autos and burglaries, according to an APD news release.
Officers received a call at 4:21 p.m. on Wednesday in reference to an entering auto that occurred some time between 3:30 and 4 p.m. on the 2000 block of South Madison Street. The victim, Mareka Clark, 27, reported that an unknown person entered her black 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and stole money from the vehicle. The automobile was unlocked at the time.
Another entering auto incident occurred on Thursday. Officers received a call from victim Daryl Johnson, 29, who reported an unknown subject entered his gray 2015 Dodge Durango between 5:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and stole a 9mm handgun on the 200 block of North Broadway Street. The vehicle was unlocked.
Investigators also received four new burglary reports.
Victim Benjamin Roberts, 49, reported an unknown subject(s) broke the glass on the west side door of his home with a piece of wood to unlock the door and gained entry into his home on Wednesday sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. The suspects stole two bicycles, a power drill and a power saw. This incident occurred on the 1000 block of West Third Avenue.
Two burglaries were reported at Simpson’s Self Storage, located at 1300 S. Mock Road.
At 10:09 a.m. on Wednesday, Michelle Cobey, 40, reported to officers that between 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, an unknown person(s) broke the lock off her storage unit and removed a 32-inch Sanyo television and a Bowing lawn mower.
Another complainant, Jennifer Conklin, 43, reported to officers that a Simpson’s Self Storage unit had been burglarized sometime between Nov. 30 at 11:30 p.m. and Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The lock was cut off of victim Peggy Sparling’s, storage unit. Sparling, 60, was notified of the incident and confirmed the missing items were a cooking pot and baby clothes.
Officers received a call from victim Tony Brown, 52, on Thursday at 4:49 p.m. in reference to a burglary. The victim reported that at some time between Nov. 26 at 8 a.m. and Thursday at 4:45, an unknown suspect(s) kicked in the rear door to his home and gained entry. Items stolen included a 47-inch Sanyo television, a 60-inch Sony television and a 55-inch Sony television.
These incidents are currently under investigation.
