Albany State announces theme, honorees for Scholarship Gala

ALBANY — The Albany State University Foundation has announced the theme and honorees for the fourth annual Blue and Gold Scholarship Gala, which is scheduled April 6 at the university’s West Campus Arena.
Themed “A Night Under The Stars,” the signature fundraising event will be held during Founder’s Day Week on April 6.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by the gala at 7. The attire is black-tie. Tickets are $150, and sponsorship opportunities begin at $1,500. Support of this event enables ASU to provide scholarships to deserving students.
During the gala, six outstanding individuals and one business will be honored for their dedication and support of the university and their significant contributions to their respective fields. This formal event promises to be a night of celebration, inspiration, and gratitude. Gala honorees are:
♦ Trailblazer Award: Daniel Simmons, Senior Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church;
♦ Joseph W. Holley Lifetime Achievement Award: Shirley and Charles Sherrod, Civil Rights Activists, New Communities Inc.;
♦ Excellence in Education Award: Kenneth Dyer, Superintendent, Dougherty County School System;
♦ Rising Star Award: Randy Williams and Eric Heyward, Founders and CEOs, Talley & Twine;
♦ Community Partner of the Year: Molson Coors Beverage Company;
