ALBANY — Albany Technical College announced Monday the launch of a pioneering new program, the Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) Technical Certificate of Credit, starting in fall 2024. This addition marks the first of its kind within the Technical College System of Georgia, designed specifically to advance the skills of experienced paramedics into critical care specialties.

The new program targets National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-certified paramedics with a minimum of two years of experience, offering them a unique opportunity to enhance their expertise. The CCP program is meticulously tailored to prepare paramedics for advanced roles in critical care settings, such as helicopter emergency medical services, fixed-wing critical care transport, and intensive care units.

“The CCP program is a significant advancement in paramedical education, responding to the growing demand for specialized care in complex patient transport and critical care environments,” Thad Minick, the paramedicine instructor at ATC, said. “We are happy to equip our paramedics with the comprehensive training necessary to excel in high-stakes medical scenarios.”

This intensive one-semester program, comprising 15 credit hours, allows graduates to sit for the International Board of Specialty Certifications for CCP, aiming to set a new standard in paramedical professional qualifications.

For more information, contact Minick in the paramedicine office at (229) 430-2812 or email [email protected]; or instructor Brandon Kent at (229) 430-0694 or email [email protected]

Albany Technical College officials say they are committed to providing cutting-edge educational programs that respond to the needs of both the health care sector and the community it serves. The CCP program at ATC not only broadens the scope of paramedic practice but also enhances the overall quality of health care delivery.
