ALBANY – The Albany Technical College fall 2016 class for the Associate of Science in Nursing program recently received notification from the Georgia Board of Nursing that all 10 graduates received a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX-RN exam.

The NCLEX-RN exam is used by all state boards of nursing across the United States to help assess students’ competency and is required for licensure. Also, many state boards of nursing use the total overall NCLEX-RN pass rate for a school as one of the primary criteria for approving a school’s ability to provide a nursing education in the state.

“To achieve an honor of this magnitude demonstrates the caliber of leadership, faculty and staff, and students of Albany Technical College,” said Latrona Lanier, director for the Associate of Science in Nursing program at Albany Tech.

Lanier added that not only did the program graduates earn the 100 percent pass rate, but all 10 were offered employment opportunities in Southwest Georgia, including such well-known health care employers as Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and Cardiology Associates.

“Ultimately, we are here to make a difference in our community by producing highly-qualified nurses,” said Lanier. “It is wonderful seeing our purpose come to fruition.”

Albany Tech launched the ASN program in 2013 with 24 students in the first cohort, all of whom graduated with a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX in 2015. Today, the program has more than 70 students enrolled and anticipates continued growth.

The program was also recently ranked No. 1 in Georgia by RegisteredNursing.org. The organization analyzed 40 schools but ranked only 10. Albany Tech’s program led the ranking.
