Albany Tech students shine at state SkillsUSA competition

ALBANY – Albany Technical College students are riding high after returning from the SkillsUSA Georgia Post-Secondary State Competition, held recently in Atlanta. Demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication, 37 ATC students competed, and from that group came five gold medalists, who now advance to the national stage.
Albany Tech students excelled across a wide range of vocational and technical disciplines, including medical terminology, firefighter training, welding, and more. The gold medal winners will represent ATC at the National SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta June 24-28.
Reflecting on the state competition, Kenneth Williams, ATC’s director of athletics/student life, expressed pride in the students’ achievements.
“We are extremely proud of the 37 students we took to the SkillsUSA State Conference in Atlanta,” Williams said. “Every one of them represented the college well. Our students brought home five gold medals, seven silver medals, and two bronze medals.”

• Kalin Barber — Nurse Assisting
• Darius Jones — Medical Assisting

• Tonya Farmer –- Cosmetology
“ATC stands united in celebration of our students’ achievements,” ATC President Emmett Griswold said. “It is indeed a great day to be an Albany Tech Titan, and we anticipate an impressive performance on the national stage that will continue to elevate the standard of excellence ATC upholds.”
