APD earns re-accreditation from CALEA
Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies certifies Albany Police Department
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — The Albany Police Department earned an important re-accreditation Saturday when it was announced at the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) annual summit in Mobile, Ala. that the department had once again met CALEA accreditation standards.
Accordin to a press release issued by APD spokesperson Phyllis Banks, the CALEA certification status represents a significant professional achievement and is confirmation that APD practices are consistent with progressive professional standards.
CALEA assessors spent several days evaluating the Department in November 2016 and examined all aspects of the department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Verification by the team is a part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation, a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.
“This is an excellent opportunity for the department to show the community that we are committed to providing a good service by ensuring our policies and procedures are current and effective” said Chief Michael Persley in a press release.
The CALEA accreditation award is for four years and the department is required to maintain continuous compliance during the award period.
