Unknown assailants fire shots into North Jackson Street home

ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is investigating several incidents reported this week, including motor vehicle thefts, aggravated assault and multiple burglaries.

According to Phyllis Banks, a spokeswoman for APD, two incidents of motor vehicle theft were reported on Tuesday. The first incident occurred between 7:15 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. A caller, Travis McGruder, reported that an unknown suspect stole his girlfriend Ta-Keyla Holsey’s blue 2007 Saturn Aura XR that was in his possession. McGruder told police he left the vehicle parked, unlocked and turned on in the parking lot at 3900 Gillionville Road.

The vehicle was recovered in the 3200 block of Fernridge Drive, where it had been involved in an accident.

In the other incident of motor vehicle theft, the victim, Helena Wester, told officers that her ex-boyfriend dropped off the 2007 Chevrolet HHR at her house on the 400 block of Ebony Lane and left the keys with $10 for gas. When Wester came downstairs, the keys and the vehicle were missing. The victim said she contacted the ex-boyfriend at his residence down the street, and he told her that he didn’t have the keys or the vehicle.

An unknown suspect(s) reportedly fired several rounds into a residence located on the 700 block of North Jackson Street at 9:42 p.m. on Tuesday in an incident of aggravated assault and criminal damage to property. Prentice Davis was the victim named for criminal damage to property. The aggravated assault victims were Eric Harvey Sr., who was in the southwest bedroom on the floor, Stephanie Towns, who was cooking in the kitchen, and Robert James, who was in his lounge chair in the east bedroom.

There were no witnesses of the incident, and bullet holes were documented in the walls of the residence.

Multiple burglaries occurred late Monday evening and on Tuesday, including an incident on Penny Lane between the hours of 9-11 a.m on Tuesday. Victim Leigh Harris reported an unknown suspect pried open the back door to the residence and stole $2,400 worth of items, including a 40 inch television, 15 wigs, a laptop and luggage. There are no known witnesses at this time.

Bettye Ward reported that an unknown person entered her residence on the 2400 block of Hilltop Drive and two storage sheds between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. without permission and stole multiple items, including a 42-inch Magnavox flat-screen TV and a 15-inch Lenovo Laptop. Ward reported the suspects attempted to take a generator from one of her storage buildings as well without success. There are no suspects or witnesses at this time.

A 32-inch Emerson television and a 55-inch television of an unknown brand was taken from a residence located on the 2400 block of Stuart Avenue. The victim, Kimberly Candidate, reported the crime at 12:44 p.m. Tuesday. There are no suspects or witnesses.

A $3,000 solar panel battery was stolen from the front porch of victim Drew Heilman’s property located on the 500 block of Odom Avenue. The victim reported the incident at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday. There are no suspects or witnesses.

Victim Patrice Gammage reported that her residence on the 600 block of Cotton Avenue has been burglarized for the second time this week. An unknown suspect entered the residence between 7 p.m. on Monday and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and took a microwave along with miscellaneous food items. There are no suspects or witnesses.

The final incident update from APD was the burglary of a residence on the 1800 block of Gadsden Drive. The timeframe of the crime is listed as sometime from Nov. 28 to Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Victim Quatika Harris told police that an unknown person entered the residence and stole a 32-inch Vizio TV, a Sony DVD player, multiple shoes of various colors in sizes ranging from 8 to 9 1/2, Ninja Turtle watches, toiletries and cleaning supplies. There are no suspects or witnesses.
