APD Police Chief to discuss weekend incidents at news conference

ALBANY — Albany Police Department Chief Michael Persley has called a news conference for 11:30 a.m. Monday to discuss a pair of incidents that occurred over the weekend, including a deadly motorcycle crash and a homicide.
APD responded to the 300 block of Lockett Station Road Saturday at around 3:48 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Officers who arrived on the scene found Anthony Mitchell, 40, who was a victim of gunshots. Mitchell was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his inhuries.
Police arrested Milton Gowdy, 23, and charged him with involuntary manslaughter. He was transported to the Dougherty County Jail.
Albany police officers responded to the 1400 block of W. Lincoln Ave. Friday in reference to an auto accident involving two motorcycles. Two individuals, whose names have not yet been released pending notice to next of kin, were found deceased as a result of the accident.
The case is currently being investigated by the Albany Police Department’s Traffic Unit, and APD said updates will be provided once new information becomes available.
Persley’s news conference will be held at the APD Law Enforcement Center at 201 W. Oglethorpe Blvd.
