Aspire Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Services to hold addiction recovery listening session
Aspire will hold an active listening session as part of a new program

ALBANY — Aspire Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Services will host a community listening session today at the Creekside Education Center located at Chehaw.
Representatives from the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse and Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities will be available to answer questions and contribute to the discussion, which is set for 5:30-7 p.m.
The listening session will focus on solutions by using findings to develop what the community, through participation, believes will be helpful in creating an atmosphere of recovery.
“Tomorrow is an opportunity for us to get feedback from the community and from our partners on what recovery services are needed here in Albany, Georgia,” Aspire Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Services Corporate Compliance Officer Babs Hall said about the meeting on Monday. “Recovery from substance includes the use of illegal or legal drugs, alcohol or any addiction to substances.
In an effort to create an atmosphere of recovery, Aspire is launching an addiction recovery support center called The Change Center, a resource designed to be a safe environment where peers can achieve and sustain long-term recovery from substance abuse. The community listening session will be the first part of the program.
The Change Center is meant to be an inclusive community organization led by individuals in long term recovery. Aspire officials said they aim to maintain an environment “that empowers change, promotes choice and fosters recovery” by bridging gaps and connecting community partners.
Anyone interested in learning more about the substance abuse recovery process is invited to attend today’s session along with individuals living in substance abuse recovery to provide input for what the community needs as far as recovery services or to provide support.
Officials said The Change Center was made possible from a grant through Georgia DBHDD.
Chehaw is located at 105 Chehaw Park Drive.
