ALBANY — The days surrounding the Christmas holiday were violent for some in the Good Life City, reports from the Albany Police Department show.

APD reports during the Christmas holiday period included a home invasion and two aggravated assaults. One of the reported assaults was an incident at 706 S. Madison St. shortly before 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Officer Jamal Baisden noted in the report’s narrative that several people left the home as Baisden approached. A woman told police a crime victim was inside the home, and Baisden and another officer entered the home and found a man with “a large amount of blood on his clothes.”

The victim, identified as Dexter Gilbert, said he did not know what happened to him, but officers said they saw what looked like a small hole on his bottom left jaw that was starting to swell, the report said.

The report said the woman who drew Baisden’s attention to Gilbert said there was an altercation between the victim and someone else, and that she heard a gunshot before seeing Gilbert in the bushes in the alleyway between West Gordon Avenue and Cotton Avenue. Officers went to the location to find a brown hat on the ground and blood on the grass.

The report said Gilbert acknowledged a gun was involved, but a shell casing was not found.

After paramedics arrived to examine Gilbert, he jumped off the ambulance and ran south from Gordon Avenue. A warrant search on Gilbert found that he was wanted for probation violation. An immediate search for Gilbert yielded no results, the report said.

A home invasion was reported at 2:37 a.m. on Tuesday at 1409 Palmyra Road, Apt. 28, resulting in two people being transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Officer Thomas Glass reported that he responded to the apartment regarding a shooting. Glass made contact with Eric Sumbry, who said two men attacked him and his girlfriend, Allegra Fillmore, and stole his money.

The report said Sumbry told police the couple were asleep and he did not intend to answer the door, but the two men sounded like they were attempting to enter by force. The two men, wearing masks, forced their way in and beat Sumbry with a cane in the apartment.

The suspects demanded money, and one pushed a cushion over the victim’s face while he was on the floor, threatening to shoot him, the report said.

The report said one of the suspects hit Fillmore in the face with a handgun and she was forced on the floor before the duo ran out. Sumbry said he saw a black Ford Focus leave the apartment complex driving south on Palmyra.

Fillmore said she did not recognize the voices of the suspects, the report said.

Sumbry had what Glass noted were “severe” lacerations to his forehead and blood all over his body, while Fillmore had a “large golf ball-sized” swollen area on her forehead along with abrasions to the right side of her face and blood all over her body.

The police report said both were transported to Phoebe. A spokeswoman for the hospital said Fillmore and Sumbry had been discharged by Wednesday morning.

The other aggravated assault is reported to have taken place at 810 S. McKinley St. shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Day. The report said a man identified as Kenya Osgood was asked for his phone by Isaiah Daniels while sitting on his porch, and when Osgood declined, Daniels allegedly struck the victim with a silver .32 caliber revolver before heading eastward on foot.

Swelling was noted around Osgood’s right eye, but he refused EMS treatment. He told police nothing was taken.

The cases remain active, with no arrests confirmed as of mid-afternoon Wednesday, a spokeswoman for APD said.
