Deal appoints Sarah Hawkins Warren to Georgia Supreme Court
Hawkins to replace former justice Britt Grant

ATLANTA — Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday the appointment of the Sarah Hawkins Warren as a justice to the Supreme Court of Georgia. Warren will fill the vacancy created by the confirmation of Britt Grant to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Warren’s appointment will take effect upon swearing in.
“On behalf of the office of the Attorney General, I want to express our congratulations to Solicitor General Sarah Hawkins Warren for being appointed to serve on the Supreme Court of Georgia,” Attorney General Chris Carr said in a news release. “Sarah is truly one of the top legal minds in our state and a valued member of the Department of Law team. We have full confidence that Sarah will continue to uphold the rule of law and serve the people of Georgia well in this important role.”
Warren currently serves as the solicitor general in the office of the Georgia attorney general. She previously worked as the deputy solicitor general and as special counsel for water litigation in the Georgia attorney general’s office. Warren was also a partner with Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Washington, D.C. She clerked for Richard J. Leon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and for Chief Judge J.L. Edmondson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
She earned bachelor’s degrees, magna cum laude, in public policy and Spanish from Duke University and a law degree, magna cum laude, from the Duke University School of Law. She and her husband, Blaise, have two children and reside in Atlanta.
