Dougherty County School System elementary students showcasing artistic talents
Dougherty County Elementary Art Exhibition on display at Albany Area Arts Council

ALBANY — Elementary school students in the Dougherty County School System currently have their artwork displayed in a gallery at the Albany Area Arts Council, showcasing the talent of children in the Albany area.
The artists and their families came to the art council’s Carnegie Library to see pictures, paintings and other works of art at the Dougherty County Elementary Art Exhibition opening on Wednesday afternoon. The guests snacked on holiday-themed cookies, provided by The Cakery, and punch while viewing colorful pieces displaying each child’s individual creativity.
“Every day, it seems, I come to work and see something new,” Arts Council Executive Director Nicole Williams said. “Every time you look, there’s something different that sticks out to you.”
The artwork will be on display at the arts council, located at 215 N. Jackson St., until Jan. 23 — the day of the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser event. Williams said that the art opening on Wednesday had a larger crowd than the year prior.
The students used multiple mediums to create both two- and three-dimensional art such as water color paints, pastels, colored pencils and construction paper. The artwork features a variety of subjects including abstract art, wintry themes, portraits, nature and wildlife.
Individuals interested in viewing the artwork in person can view the exhibit at the arts council building. The hours of operation are noon-4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday and noon-8 p.m. on Thursday.
