ALBANY — The Dougherty County Youth Orchestra’s annual spring concert is scheduled Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m at the Billy C. Black Auditorium on Albany State University’s east campus.
Tickets for the concert, which is a collaboration with ASU’s Center for the African American Male, are $5.
The spring concert will include pieces from classical composers such as Telemann, Vivaldi and Handel, as well as 20th-century composer Piazolla.
The Dougherty County Youth Orchestra, led by Conductor Alexander Reshetnichenko, includes students from Dougherty County High School, Westover High School, a few home-schooled students and one from Lee County High School. The students are in grades 9-12.
The DCYO teaches students how to read music, how to appreciate music and about composers. The students learn mostly classical music and occasionally pop music. Reshetnichenko said that learning how to play music also improves the students’ ability to do mathematics.
“The Youth Orchestra teaches them about life and about music,” Reshetnichenko said. “It makes them more well rounded.”
