ALBANY — The Albany Police Department conducted a crosswalk crackdown Tuesday on the 200 block of Pine Avenue, a main crossing area for the Albany-Dougherty Government Center and the county’s Judicial Building.

According to APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks, the increased enforcement was prompted complaints APD has received and observations by police officers.

Between noon and 1:15 p.m., motorists failed to yield to seven pedestrians. Five warnings were issued and one arrest for disorderly conduct was made, according to reports.

The area in front of the courthouse is one of the areas covered by the Governor’s Challenge and ICAP programs.

According to APD, there will be more of these types of events downtown and in other areas of the city.
