ALBANY — The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning issued an Order for Intended Emergency Closure Monday for Carolyn N. Greene’s Family Childcare Learning Home, located at 3043 Tiger Court in Albany.

“Orders for Intended Emergency Closure are issued by the agency when it is determined that the health, safety or welfare of children may be in imminent danger,” DECAL Communications Director Reg Griffin said. “This action stems from multiple issues, including improper discipline of children to the lack of required criminal background checks of employees. The program has the right to appeal the Order for Intended Emergency Closure within 48 business hours.”

Parents impacted by the emergency closing can connect with child care resources at www.allgakids.org or by calling the toll-free number 1-877-ALL GA KIDS. Parents will be assisted in locating quality child care options. DECAL provides this free service to parents.

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our state’s young learners,” a news release from the agency said.

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is responsible for meeting the child care and early education needs of Georgia’s children and their families. It administers the nationally recognized Georgia Pre-K program, licenses child care centers and home-based child care, administers Georgia’s Childcare and Parent Services program, federal nutrition programs and manages voluntary quality enhancement programs.

The department also houses the Head Start State Collaboration Office, distributes federal funding to enhance the quality and availability of child care, and works collaboratively with Georgia child care resource and referral agencies and organizations throughout the state to enhance early care and education.
